On the River

Canoeing at Kerne Bridge

The Kerne Bridge canoe launch is one of the most popular on the River Wye.  The river itself was voted the most popular river in England in 2010.  The site is owned by Walford Parish Council and managed during the season by Riverseas Holdings Ltd.  There is parking for around 30 vehicles, parking charges apply, and easy access for visiting canoe company buses and their trailers.

Launching is aided by a large preparation area adjacent to a purpose built ramp.  The stretch of river from the Kerne Bridge launch to Symonds Yat is one of the most popular and beautiful 1/2 day tours on the river.  If you are stopping off here for lunch then the Inn on the Wye is a short walk away towards Ross on Wye.   Numerous local canoe hire companies use the launch.

Canoeing is not the only popular activity on the river wye. Both open water swimmers and stand up paddle boarders are also growing in numbers.

The site is also a popular picnic spot where during the season Charlie, Boo and their team provide onsite food and beverages via their converted French fire engine “The Paddle Cafe”.
